Life & career

Yun Hyeon-jin, from Yangsan in South Gyeongsang Province, studied law at Meiji University in Japan before returning to Korea and joining the Daedong Youth Party to pursue the independence cause. He ran the Baeksan Trading Company in Busan to raise funds for the movement, co-founded a consumer cooperative with fellow activists to generate further resources, and, during the March 1st Movement, remitted a large sum to the Provisional Government in Shanghai through an American missionary.

He later went into exile in China, where he served as deputy minister of finance for the Provisional Government, helping sustain its finances, but died of illness in 1921. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation in 1962, and his remains were interred at Daejeon National Cemetery in 1995.
