Jang Heon-hwi (章獻輝) was a military officer of the Imjin War. Namuwiki describes him as a Tongdangnang and Hunryeonwon-jeong who fell at the Battle of Noryang while following Admiral Yi Sun-sin. The Digital Geochang Culture Encyclopedia also lists him among the clan's notable figures, as a magistrate-level officer (pangwan) who died at Noryang. The two sources give different titles, and which is correct could not be confirmed here.
The Battle of Noryang was fought at dawn on 19 November of the lunar calendar (16 December 1598) when the Joseon-Ming fleet blocked the retreating Japanese fleet, the last great naval battle of the war, in which Yi Sun-sin was killed. Jang's birth year and specific deeds could not be confirmed; the death year is given as 1598 to match the battle. His name survives mainly in clan and local sources, so details should be checked against genealogies and collected writings.
In the same period, Jang Heon-bu of the clan is said to have raised volunteers and fallen at Jinju Fortress, and Jang Heon-seo to have died at Hwangseoksan Fortress. The Geochang Jang clan speaks proudly of several of its members fighting for the country.
The spelling of the name and the post vary by source. This page follows Namuwiki and the Digital Geochang Culture Encyclopedia; no cross-check against the Veritable Records or genealogies was made.
His grave and any shrine could not be confirmed.
